We do the majority of our driving while Knox naps so that we can cover more ground without him getting fussy. I look forward to his naps because I can take off the “mom hat” and enjoy reconnecting with Sean. Some of my most fond memories of this adventure so far are the quiet drives, chatting and dreaming with Sean as he drives through the changing scenery.
The only downside to driving while Knox naps, is that we can’t freely stop if something we pass catches our eye. We wouldn’t dare wake Knox after 10 minutes into what’s is supposed to be an hour long nap. Although we have driven past some things that just maybe worth a cranky kid for the rest of the day. (We will just have to return to those spots one day.)
Long story, short. Our first, “Wait! We have to stop there!” was to pick blueberries from a u-pick farm in Oregon. Knox has a serious passion for blueberries and we knew he would be pumped to wake up to a favorite snack.
It was a first time for all of us to pick blueberries straight off the bush and we were excited when we realized that the bushes were just the right height for Knox to pick his own. There were over thirty varieties to try and we were delighted to try them all before deciding which were the ones we wanted to pick the most of to take with us in the bus. Some of our favorite varieties were Earliblue, Spartan and Blue Gold.
How amazing that we paid only 50 cents for a half a pound of berries! I was wishing we had more space to store more berries and an oven to make a pie!
